A NEW THREAT
In August 2005, we received the good news that the proposal to build over a large part of the Hewett School playing field had been withdrawn. (You can see the details here). We were extremely pleased that the threat of this green space being replaced with a car park, extremely expensive sports centre, nursing home and private nursery, had been lifted.
However, we remained aware that the permission given to the school to sell the land could not be rescinded, so we continued to monitor the situation..
And now, in January 2007, we have learned that the area is under threat again.
Under the Freedom of Information Act, we have received copies of emails between the Council and David Lloyd Leisure, showing that Norfolk County Council is still in contact with David Lloyd Leisure concerning the possibility of David Lloyd Leisure once again buying and concreting over the playing field. (Norfolk County Council has denied being in "active" negotiations in connection with the proposed sale.)
You can read the Norwich Evening News Article about this here.
