Withdrawal of the Planning Application
We are very pleased to announce that, on the 10 August 2005, we received the letter, copied below, informing us that the application, to which we have been objecting, has been withdrawn. We would like to thank all those who have supported the R.A.I.D. campaign, including Jean & Peter Kentfield (South Harford Pensioners’ Association), Jan Kitchener & Juliet Wimshurst (Gardens for Wildlife), Paul Scruton (Norwich Over The Water Group), Chris Wood (Transplan), Adrian Ramsay and Chris Hull (the Green Party) and Denise Carlo (NNTAG).
We would also like to thank every single person who wrote to protest against the proposed sale and unsuitable development of the Hewett School playing fields. We feel that the volume of protests received has influenced this outcome.
As a note of caution, we must continue to be vigilant in case there are further plans to sell off the field. If anyone hears of anything that might be a cause for concern, please let us know (contact details at the bottom of the page).
Finally, we would like to stress that we wish the Hewett School well in raising funds for a new school sports hall, providing this can be achieved without selling the school's greatest asset, and without alienating the local community.
